Genesis 1 tells us that God made people in his image. What does this mean, and how can a right understanding of this shape our lives? ----- Why are people valuable? What gives us our purpose? To what types of things or relationships do we typically look to answer these questions? ----- 1. Genesis 1 says God made all people in his image. 2. Being made in God's image means he determines our value. 3. Being made in God's image means we look to him for our purpose. ----- What part of being made in God's image is most encouraging for you? ----- 1. This means we are unique among all God's creatures, giving us dignity. 2. This means all people have incredible value simply because God says we do. 3. This means all people are designed with the purpose of reflecting God's glory to the world. ----- PRAY >>> Creator God, you have made such a wonderful world. And even though our world is broken by sin, the evidence of your beauty and goodness is all around us. I thank you that you have given people such value among all your creations, and that because of this I don't need to look to anyone or anything else for my worth. Forgive me for trying to find value in the wrong things, and forgive me for looking to created things to define my worth instead of seeking my worth in you. Help me to live each day in thankfulness for how you have created me, and help me to have faith to pursue your purposes as my highest aim in life. In Jesus' name, amen.
